State of the art fire safety systems, such as ventilation systems and suppression systems do not solve the problem of fires in tunnels. They cannot reduce the risk of incidents occurring. However, if used appropriately, they can significantly reduce the consequences of many incidents, and thereby reduce the overall level of hazard in the tunnel. This workshop is tailored to enable you to better determine the capabilities of both ventilation and suppression systems for fire and smoke control and will include group discussions on how and when such systems should be used to achieve the best level of control over an incident. Two example cases will be presented and the proposed fire strategies will be debated. Through this in-depth investigation you will obtain a more comprehensive understanding of how careful use of these systems may assist in the mitigation of fire incidents.
