Panel Discussion
Exploring current country legislations and what influence this is having on the future of biofuel trading, transportation and sustainability

It is a general consensus within the industry that in order for all mechanisms within the biofuel industry to come together and improve, the government needs to have a tighter rein. Therein lies the core of the problem. Each government, with the intention of optimising the industry, has enforced its own individual regulations, compounding the challenge: now each country has to abide by national, neighbouring and EU regulations in order to be able to stay in business.  Benefit from a panel of four leading countries in Europe, discussing the advantages and shortcomings of their own individual playgrounds, how to make progress with regards to harmonising EU's standards as a whole and how this in turn can exploit Europe's huge growth potential in the biofuel market:

  • The UK - Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation Programme - how these reports are verified and what effect this legislation has had on the industry so far
  • Belgium - Tender bidding – how this procedure works and the implications for the rest of the market
  • The Netherlands - sustainable biofuel, sustainable transportation – assessing whether their pact with Brazil made any headway at all
  • What all these regulations have done to EU's biofuel industry with regards to trading, transportation and sustainability
  • Harmonising the legislations to optimise on EU's biofuel market - can the systems within each country meet in the middle or do more drastic measures need to be taken?
