Bio Base Europe is a pilot-, training- and educational facility for entrepreneurs, producers, researchers, trainers and students. Bio Base Europe focuses on the biobased economy. It’s located in the Port of Ghent (Belgium) and Zeeland Seaports in Terneuzen (the Netherlands), ports that concentrate on biobased activities. Bio Base Europe tackles two bottlenecks for development of a biobased economy: lack of a pilot plant for biobased products and processes, and shortage of skilled biobased process operators. Bio Base Europe encourages network activities, technological innovation and entrepreneurship and develops public information and communications on the biobased economy.

The Bio Base Europe pilot plant in Ghent is a pilot facility for the development and scale-up of new bioprocesses to an industrial level. It will operate according to an open innovation model, where companies and research institutions from all over the world can test and optimize their biobased activities.

The Bio Base Europe training center in Terneuzen, provides educational facilities for training of skilled bioprocess operators and technical maintenance specialists. It operates as an open training facility, providing standard, as well as company specific, training and education for biobased processes.

Bio Base Europe is a partnership between Ghent Bio-Energy Valley and Biopark Terneuzen and their respective stakeholders. Bio Base Europe is financially supported by: Interreg Vlaanderen Nederland, Europees Fonds voor Regionale Ontwikkeling, Port of Ghent, Provincie Zeeland, Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, Zeeland Seaports, Ministerie van Economische Zaken, de Vlaamse overheid, Agentschap Ondernemen, ROC Westerschelde and multi-utility company Delta.
