Dual discussion session: Evaluating the latest
battery storage technologies in terms of cost,
lifecycles, safety and potential applications

Our industry experts will discuss the latest technologies and approaches to energy storage. They will lead a discussion to enable you to address the specific challenges you face

10:50 Morning refreshments and networking

11:30

Eric Lewis
CONVERTEAM & Hugh Sharman
PRUDENT ENERGY

Implementation of high capacity energy storage systems using high power inverters and advanced flow cells

  • Presenting data on the essential requirements for a high capacity energy storage systems and the various applicable technologies
  • Comparing costs of flow cell energy storage and other available technologies
  • The linking of an advanced flow cell energy storage system in to an AC grid supply system requires the use of bidirectional DC to AC inverters. The circuits used are shown for low power and high power systems based on the mass produced inverters already in use with wind power turbine generators.
  • The need for energy storage in an AC grid supply system is presented together with the benefi ts that a suitably rated advanced fl ow cell energy storage system will provide
  • The presentation concludes by showing the optimal way of integrating advanced fl ow cell energy storage together with a ProVAr reactive compensation system for a large scale wind farm

12:10 Lunch and networking

13:20

Exploring alternative cost models and funding mechanisms in order to maximise the fi nancial gain from energy storage

  • Exploring the opportunities within your organisation to fund energy storage
  • Investigating the emerging possibilities of price volatility
  • Reviewing the current levels of price volatility and how this may change to take commercial advantage
  • Evaluating alternative cost models across the world – what provides the most fi nancial gain and supports the investment of energy storage

14:00

Examining and demonstrating the value of grid connected storage

  • An introduction to the Energy Island concept for very large energy storage solutions
  • Understanding the requirements at transmission level for storage systems
  • Evaluating the impact of large wind farms on the Dutch grid
  • Discussing the value of small scale, transportable energy storage systems, case studies GROW-DERS and ITM
  • Demonstrating re-locatable assets
  • Evaluating EV impact on distribution grids
