          Preserving Affordable Environmental Standard Compliance under Tightening Standards

          Minnesota Power (ALLETE) and other Minnesota stake holders are planning for strategic environmental performance, supporting compliance through participation in a State coordinated, all source type reductions assessment. Minnesota Power’s (MP’s) targeted emission reductions are delivered through a combination of MP’s planned generation mix changes and MP unit specific emission control retrofits.

          • Providing the Minnesota emissions and environmental standard compliance status from Minnesota Pollution Control Agency 2012 stake holder group analysis, identifying areas prospectively needing further emission reductions

          • Identifying Minnesota Power’s rationale behind shifting its generation mix from about 95% coal in 2005 to a target around 50% coal in 2025 - The historic environmental performance of coal generation assets is combined with control retrofits that further improve performance to fill out the overall environmental emission reductions relative to expected State compliance needs
