Harding Street Site Visit

This is a unique chance to obtain a first hand experience of Indianapolis Power and Light’s 1,094 MW power plant.

Participants will have the opportunity to be guided through the power plant by a Plant Manager to gain key insights into the work and operations from inside a plant whose oldest coal fired unit dates back to 1958.

The plant has gone through significant emissions reduction upgrades and reduced SOx emissions by 97% and NOx emissions by 85% (both approximate).

The recent installation of a flue gas desulphurization system (FGD), has been one of the most significant recent projects in Indianapolis in terms of economic impact. IPL and its customers invested more than $200 million in the scrubber project and the work involved up to 350 skilled-trades construction workers on-site at once.  Implementation of the scrubber also created 18 new full-time IPL positions.
