
Michael Steiner
Managing Director, Advanced Power
Michael Steiner is both Managing Director of Advanced Power Spain and a Senior Director for Advanced Power (UK) Ltd.
He joined Advanced Power in September 2008 and has since been leading the project management of the 1,100 MW CCGT Merida Power project in Spain. Under his leadership the project has received its main environmental permit and is due to receive all necessary key permits in due course. In addition to this role he has managed Advanced Power's market strategy for the Iberian markets looking actively for new development opportunities.
He is also a Director on the board of Merida Power S.L.
Prior to his involvement with Advanced Power, Mr. Steiner was working four years for the AES Corporation as Business Development Director in the Europe, Africa and CIS group based in London. Among other achievements he led a 1,000 MW peaking plant bid in South Africa with AES being selected as preferred bidder, was a leading key member in the acquisition of a majority stake of Turkish hydro plant owner & developer, and part of the core team closing the $1.4bn Maritza East I 600MW lignite power plant in Bulgaria (awarded PFI deal of the year in 2005).
Before his time with AES Mr. Steiner spent three years as Local Project Director for Alstom Power in Mexico City, overseeing the execution of a 480MW re-powering project, and before that acted as Senior Tender Manager in Sales for ABB, negotiating, amongst other transactions, a $600m CCGT turnkey contract for a Spanish IPP entering the Mexican market.
Mr. Steiner gained a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in energy and turbomachinery) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, and a fulltime MBA from IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland
