Laurence Corash, M.D. has more than 15 years of experience with Cerus, ranging from his role as a co-founder to his current position as Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs. He serves as a Director of Cerus Corporation, a public company.

From 1971 to 1973 Dr. Corash was a Research Associate at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), and completed training in Hematology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD.  From 1977 to 1981 he served as Assistant Chief, Hematology Service, Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Corash has been a Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) since 1985; and was formerly Chief, Hematology Laboratory Service for the UCSF Medical Center (1982 – 1997).  His research activities include blood cell aging and technology for inactivation of infectious pathogens in blood components.  He has co-authored more than 170 original research articles and book chapters, many of which involve clinical laboratory hematology, hematology, pathogen inactivation of blood components, and transfusion medicine. He is a member of the International Society for Blood Transfusion, the AABB, and the American Society of Hematology. He served as a consultant to the FDA Advisory Panel for Hematology Devices from 1990 - 1994. He has served as the Industry Representative on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability.

Dr. Corash earned his bachelor’s degree in history with honors from Dartmouth College, and his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Corash trained in internal medicine at Bellevue Hospital and New York University Hospital, New York. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine; the American Board of Internal Medicine- Hematology; and the American Board of Pathology, Hematology.
