Company Information
Maisel has always been a true family brewery. Founded in 1887 by brothers Hans and Eberhard Maisel, who themselves grew up in a family of brewers, their own history traces back another 100 years. Today, Jeff Maisel runs the family company – now in its fourth generation.
A wealth of knowledge, plenty of creative ideas and a lot of heart and soul – that’s what has shaped this brewery for decades, and what makes it so successful to this day. Maisel currently offers over 20 different kinds of beer.
Brauerei Gebr. Maisel is most famous in Germany and abroad for its Bavarian wheat beer specialties – Maisel’s Weisse Original, Light, Dunkel (dark), Kristall (filtered), nonalcoholic and Bayreuther Bio-Weisse (organic) – but it is also the market leader in the low-carb beer segment with its Edelhopfen EXTRA Pils.
The brewery launched its latest brand, Maisel & Friends, in 2012, making Maisel a pioneer in the fast-growing specialty and craft beer segment. Maisel & Friends stands for new and creative interpretations of international beers with surprising tastes and flavors that are brewed for very special moments.
Maisel’s sister company, Bayreuther Bierbrauerei, brews handcrafted Franconian specialty beers. The varieties AKTIEN Zwick’l (Kellerbier), AKTIEN Original (bottomfermented) and AKTIEN Landbier (dark) come in a traditional swing top bottle. Bayreuther Brauhaus is the umbrella brand under which age-old Bavarian beer types such as Bayreuther Hell (pale lager), Bayreuther Bock and Bayreuther Hefe-Weissbier (unfiltered wheat beer) are offered in the classic Euro bottle.
All beers are brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot, the Bavarian Beer Purity Law of 1516, yet still offer amazing variety. Exceptionally creative and skilled, the brewers at Maisel impressively demonstrate what is possible with just four basic ingredients: hops, malt, yeast and water.
