Carl heads a diverse integrated Technical Services team across APAC which comprises of 2 subregions: Greater China as well as South-East Asia & Pacific Rim. He is responsible for a development pipeline of more than 450 properties in APAC across 20 brands and tiers, including both Franchised and Managed properties. Under his leadership, his team has successfully opened more than 300 hotels in the last 4 years. In addition, he also develops regional design strategies for respective brands to keep them competitive within the APAC market.

Carl has more than 20 years of experience in design and project management, as well as acquisition and divestments of various asset types. His past portfolio in renowned international real estate and hospitality companies included global projects in Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia; spanning Hospitality, Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Retail projects.

Augustine Quek is currently with Millennium Hotels and Resorts, Sustainability in Technical Services.

He was previously a manager leading product development, training and growth in the Standards and Certifications division of the Singapore Environmental Council (SEC).

Prior to this, he was a senior fellow in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He develops catalytic oxidative processes for waste management and waste-to-resources. The odourless conversion of food waste to fertilizer is one achievement.

Prior to this, he was the programme manager of the E2S2-CREATE programme. He coordinates operational affairs in the multi-million dollar R&D research effort that examines coupled environments to solve coupled problems through modelling and test-bedding at different scales for cities. The programme is funded under the National Research Foundation Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (NRF-CREATE). CREATE is an international collaboratory housing research centres set up by top universities.

He obtained an MBA in 2015, and has held various positions, from researcher to faculty position to management.

His research has dealt with converting various solid wastes streams into useful materials. These include converting waste rubber tyres into wastewater treatment adsorbents; hydrothermal treatment of horticultural wastes, and utilizing incineration bottom ash (IBA) for land reclamation. His current work on urban sustainability involves assessing the environmental impacts of urban services and activities through life cycle assessment, cost-benefit analysis and other forms of input-output analysis.

He currently continues to pursue interests in sustainable development from an environmental impacts perspective. He believes understanding the environmental impacts of the full life cycle of all human activities is necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The International Hotel Technology Asia Awards 2024 is now open for entries 

We are looking for entries from Hoteliers to honour and celebrate their innovative use of technology across their operations, marketing and customer service teams. Regardless of whether you are an international brand with thousands of locations or if you are an independent or regional brand, have a common goal in providing the best customer experience onsite. This is your chance to showcase how you have used technology to elevate this experience and be recognised for the impact to your business and the industry as a whole.

2024 Award Categories

  • Hotel app of the year

    This category aims to reward hotels who have implemented a guest app over the last 12 months. Judges want to see evidence of usability, overall quality, uniqueness in the market, innovation and user interface and design. 

  • Guest Facing Tech of the Year

    This category aims to reward hotels for their guest facing technology for example self-check ins, virtual concierge services, keyless rooms, in-room technology and contactless payment. Judges want to see evidence of usability, overall quality, uniqueness in the market, innovation and user interface and design. 

  • Tech in F&B Production of the Year

    This category aims to reward hotels for implementing technology to improve Food and Beverage productionJudges want to see evidence of increased efficiency, improved guests experience, reduced costs and waste and increased profits. 

  • Loyalty Programme of the Year

    This category aims to reward a hotels guest loyalty programmesJudges want to see evidence of improved guest experience, innovation, increased bookings, cost effectiveness and valuable insights. 

  • Digital Marketing Campaign Initiative of the Year

    This category aims to reward a hotel’s Digital Marketing Campaign over the last 12 monthsJudges want to see campaigns that have increased engagement, traffic and revenue. 

  • Best use of Hotel Integrated Technology

    This category aims to reward hotels and Technology providersJudges are looking for evidence of hotels utilizing digital services and technologies to drive their operations, enable seamless communication and collaboration between different departments within a hotel. Provide evidence of streamlining operations, enhanced guest experience, increased efficiency and productivity. 

  • Sustainability Initiative of the Year

    This category aims to reward hotels who have implemented a sustainability initiative in the last 12 months.  Judges want to see initiatives that significantly reduce their environmental impact through green best-practices in maintenance, services, logistics, products, and supplies. 

  • Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year

    This category aims to reward hotels who have implemented a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in the last 12 months.  Judges want to see initiatives that have considered an impact on people, planet, and profits – to determine strategic priorities. 

  • Chief Technology Officer of the year Award

    To be eligible for the CTO of the Year Award, the nominee should have recently initiated a positive change or made a significant impact on the growth and innovation of their company. The major part of the change or impact should have occurred during the last year.  The winner of this award will be recognized for their exceptional contributions to the technological and innovative advancements within their company, demonstrating leadership that drives success and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
