ProActive Study Management offers project management and CRO Oversight services and training. Peter has worked with Origin Sciences since 2015, becoming the company’s Chief Operating Officer in SEP18. Origin Sciences has a CE marked medical device for sampling rectal mucosa and is currently investigating its use in the early detection of colorectal cancer

Ian Hodgson
Currently, working as Head of Clinical Operations for Mereo BioPharma, a small UK-based biopharma company specialising in rare diseases, Ian has approx. 20 years’ experience in clinical development. Working for small, medium, large pharma and CROs, including Takeda oncology, Shire, ICON, Sanofi in clinical science and operational roles he has a broad therapeutic and operations experience in early & late phase development which has supported successful registrations in US, EU and Japan. He has been successful in operationalising complex programs in orphan and specialty indications and has a PhD in Medical Microbiology from the University of Edinburgh and Queen Margaret University College.
John Shillingford
John Shillingford, PhD is an experienced clinical researcher whose career in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and CRO industries has stretched over 40 years. John has both lived and worked in a number of European Countries as well as the USA. He is now lives in Germany.
His wide experience of Drug and Medical Device Development in Europe and the USA has been acquired during the management of both Clinical and Data Operations for major Global Programmes.
John has held senior positions in Management, Clinical Operations and Project Management for, Aptiv Solutions, Averion International (a Medical Device Research Company), PRA International and Imform GmbH.
Currently John is Clinical Operations Director and a member of the Board of Afon Technology Ltd, a UK based Medical Device Company, Consultant to International Research Companies and additionally continues to run a number of training courses in Vendor and Project Management.

Elena Smith
Elena currently works at Janssen Research & Development as a Disease Area Stronghold Leader in Oncology. This role has oversight of global program operational activities for several of Janssen’s oncology compounds. Prior to this Elena has worked at Janssen for the past 12 years as a Global Program Leader and a Global Trial Leader within Janssen’s oncology group.
Elena started her career in pharma as a Clinical Research Associate at Pharmacia and then SmithKline Beecham. Elena then took a global trial management role at Serono Biotech in Geneva. Following this, Elena moved to a CRO, Orion Clinical Services, for 5 years, where she worked initially as a Project Leader and then as global Director of Project Management and Clinical Operations.
Elena is passionate about ensuring excellent cross-functional collaboration between Janssen and its partners, and optimisation of clinical program/trial processes to make them as efficient as possible.
Penelope Ward
A pharmaceutical physician with senior management experience gained at Pharmacia and Upjohn (Pfizer), Roche, GSK, Novimmune, Glenmark, UCB, Topivert Pharma, Karus Therapeutics and Virion Biotherapeutics. Through working extensively in drug development, from discovery to new drug approval, Penny has invaluable expertise in designing and implementing clinical development strategies in multiple therapeutic areas. Penny qualified from University College London, is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians and visiting Senior Lecturer at Kings College London.
